I have been a photographer just about my whole life
when ever since I was a kid I often "borrowed" my mother's old reliable Kodak Brownie camera. It wasn't until 1977, however,
that I got my first 35m film camera, a Nikkormat EL-W, and the thought crossed my mind to make a career out of photography.
My enthusiasm for this artistic medium led me to take several classes at the New School, in Manhattan, New York, where I learned
darkroom techniques, allowing me the knowledge of developing my own film and prints. Now of course, I was thoroughly hooked.
In only a few years, from 1977 to 1979 I had already acquired a rather large
portfolio of images. People who viewed my work, mainly family friends, encouraged me to send my work to various magazines
to see if I could get my photographic images published. Perhaps it was rather dumb luck, but after only a few tries, I was
delightfully informed that one of my photos would be published, thus my very first photo appeared on the cover of the April
1980 issue of Unity Magazine. From there on in, my work continued to be published and has appeared in a variety of media,
from magazines, newspapers, calendars and books.
I've also have had
the distinction, that one of my photos, that of a stray tabby cat, which appeared on the cover of Veterninary Medicine was
later cited as winning the Gold Award as being the best Magazine Cover Of The Year for a trade publication, with a circulation
of under 100,000.
As a photographer, I'm perhaps a rare breed, since believe it or not, I
continue to use that Nikkormat EL-W 35m film camera. As such, my work is still in the medium of 35mm slides and black and
white images. I now however, possess the ability to transfer my photographic collection digitially, thus enabling me to satisfy
the publishing media that uses the digital format of photographic images. I can therefore send my images via e-mail as attachments
or send on discs. Of course, for those who still view slides, I am always more than able and can accommodate clients who
wish to see my work via the original slide image by sending a portfolio to them.
Besides
being a photographer, I am also an artist who has painted in the medium of oils, acrylics and watercolor. I have studied
music, and dance, and am also a writer with several published short stories. I also have a crafting business were I design
crafts with a Native American theme. In otherwords, I'm a Renaisance person who is involved in a bit of everything, and I
sincerely wish that there were at least sixty hours in a day to accomplish everything I'd like to do each and everyday.
Please contact me if you wish to see more of my photographic work, and in you have any particular or specific
image(s) you need for any upcoming project you need to fulfill.
